Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cel?

A cel (aka celluloid) is a transparent sheet of celluloid or similar film material, which was drawn on used in the production in cartoons.

Are all your cels authentic?

Yes, all of our cels are one-of-a-kind and certified with original authenticity. The numbers on your cel stand are for the scene they were used in during the original production.

What quality of cels come in the packs?

All of our cels are rated in terms of quality on an A to D scale (A being the best, and D being the worst). Every 5 pack is guaranteed to have at least two A rated cels, and the remaining cels will be randomly selected B or C grade cels. Quality is guaranteed. Our packs now only contain grades A - C cels. We no longer offer D Grade

How do you grade your artwork?

A

The graded cel visibly shows 80% - 100% of a character.

Note: An A grade does not always guarantee a scene with the main character.

B

The graded cel visibly shows less than 80% of a character.

C

The grade cel might include parts of a character but these cels mainly include scenery or other aspects of the show.

Will I get more A grade cels in a 5, 10, or 15 pack?

Yes, the 5, 10 and 15 packs have more A grade cels, with the5 pack having at least 2 A grade Cels, while the 10 pack will have at least 4 and the 15 pack will have at least 6 A grade cels.

Can I make a custom order?

No, our collection of animation cels is vast and extensive, making it time consuming to navigate & find specific cels.

If you're highly interested in an exact cel, please message us at support@animationlegends.com and we will make our best effort to find what you're looking for. but we mainly sell them in prepackaged packs.

Can I purchase a cel from a series other than what is currently featured?

No, but you can register for our newsletter to be notified when new shows become available.

What is your return policy?

Your satisfaction is our highest priority - with that said, if the cels that you receive are damaged in any way, please email us at support@animationlegends.com for a refund or reshipment.

Due to the nature of this product, we do not accept returns unless items are damaged.

What if I don't like what I get?

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the product, we are unable to give refunds if you don't like the specific cels that you receive. Our packs are completely random in regards to the exact cels you receive. We do guarantee multiple A-Rated cels in every pack, and do our best to make the remaining cels as good as possible.

Why is there concept art behind my cel?

Production companies would box all of their cels together after they were finished using them. Unfortunately, they would sometimes put a painted cel on top of a piece of concept art paper. Over time, the paint often sticks to the concept art paper. To ensure your product is not damaged in any way, we have kept the pieces intact.

If you choose to attempt to remove the cel from the attached concept art, the best way is by using a small brush and slowly peeling the pieces apart.

What's the best way to preserve my cels?

The short answer: It's best to keep them in the plastic packaging they came in or frame them to reduce the exposure to air.

The long answer: We suggest adding an insert or fillet lined with acid-free backing paper to your cel if you want to frame it, and using UV plexiglass over the piece. A framing mat can be used as well, but if with time the bevels of the mat begin to darken, it should be replaced to prevent damage to the cel. Direct sunlight, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures should be avoided as best as possible to preserve the paint and its color as well as the quality of the cel itself. If you’re looking to store your cels instead of putting them on display, you can do so by storing them in a vertical position spaced with tissue paper (or semi-glossy or animation paper) and something sturdy such as cardboard to keep them upright. Again, avoid direct sunlight, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures for the best preservation.

What are the dimensions of the cels?

Our cels are about 13"x11". However, the cel and the artwork behind the cel can vary in size, so there isn't always an exact size.

How does shipping work?

All of our orders are sent out using USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground depending on your selection while at the checkout. Please allow an extra 2-5 business days in addition to the shipping times for us to prepare your cels.

Do you ship Internationally?

Yes, we have options for international shipping to numerous countries. Shipping prices will vary from country to country. Be aware, that customs fees and taxes are not applied to orders outside of the U.S. and customers may be required to pay these fees before they can claim their cels from the carrier.
